Monster High X Coraline Skullector Dolls Are Already Flipping

Monster High’s Skullector series is Mattel Creations’ collectible doll line pairing the Monster High aesthetic with characters from horror and pop culture. Past releases consistently sell out and carry secondary market premiums. These are collector-grade pieces, not standard retail toys: each includes a Certificate of Authenticity and premium packaging.

This drop partnered with LAIKA, the Oregon-based stop-motion studio behind Coraline, ParaNorman, and Kubo and the Two Strings. Released in 2009, Coraline was LAIKA’s debut feature and has grown into a genuine cult classic, especially among the horror-adjacent collector crowd that overlaps heavily with Monster High’s fanbase.

The doll does the IP justice: Coraline comes in her yellow rain jacket, signature blue bob with dragonfly clip, spiderweb rain boots, and holds a miniature button-eyed rag doll version of herself alongside her cat companion from the film.

The doll dropped at 9:00 AM PT this morning exclusively for Fang Club members and sold out quickly. Secondary market listings emerged almost immediately after. Current resale pricing is hovering around $120 per doll, which is a roughly 69% premium over the $71 retail price.

For resellers who hit the two-doll limit, the math works out to approximately $65 to $70 in net profit after eBay fees on the pair, assuming both move at the current $120 asking price. That’s not life-changing money, but it’s a solid return on a $142 outlay with minimal effort involved.

It’s worth noting that resale data is still thin at this stage; the drop only happened this morning. Active listings are asking $120 and up, but confirmed sold listings will give a clearer picture of where the market actually settles over the next 24 to 48 hours.

A few factors kept supply tight on this one. The Fang Club members-only window for the first 24 hours restricted who could buy at retail, which limited the initial sell-through pool. The two-per-customer cap further constrained how much inventory any single buyer could absorb. Combine that with a passionate, organized fanbase, and you get a sell-out and an immediate secondary market.

Short term, prices will likely stay in the $110 to $130 range as early buyers test the market. Once sold listing data accumulates over the next few days, that range will stabilize or drift depending on how many units are listed versus how many buyers are willing to pay above retail.

Longer term, Skullector dolls with strong IP backing tend to hold their value reasonably well, especially for entries that tap into well-loved source material. Coraline has the kind of dedicated following that doesn’t fade. That said, this is a modest flip at current prices, not a long-term hold play.
