Fashion people, film people, and popcorn bucket people have converged on a single object: a structured red handbag, dual top handles, gold keyring, and a miniature stiletto charm dangling off the side. It holds large popcorn and costs the price of a fast-casual dinner. The Devil Wears Prada 2 is one of the most anticipated sequels in years, and this bucket is already generating the kind of online noise that usually means something. Whether that translates to resale profit is a more complicated question.

The Devil Wears Prada 1 Popcorn Buckets

The handbag popcorn bucket is a red structured tote-style collectible manufactured by Golden Link Inc., the same company behind several of the most popular theater buckets in recent years. It features dual handles, a gold keyring charm, and a miniature gold high heel with a pitchfork detail that callbacks to the original film’s iconic trident heel logo. It includes a large popcorn with purchase.

The bucket is available at AMC, Cinemark, Regal, Marcus, and other chains alongside the film’s May 1 release. That’s a wide footprint. Cinemark is also offering five additional items alongside the bucket: a popcorn tin, a tumbler, a tumbler with charm, a standalone bag charm, and a co-branded Diet Coke souvenir cup that is arguably the most on-brand thing in the entire collection.

We don’t have exact retail pricing yet. Fandango sold a limited bundle that included the bucket, a limited edition Vanity magazine, and a ticket to the film for $50. Based on this pricing, we’re estimating the Devil Wears Prada 2 handbag popcorn bucket will cost between $25 and $40.

Will These Resell?

The online reception to this bucket is legitimately unusual. Even on Reddit, where novelty merchandise usually gets roasted, the dominant reaction has been something close to genuine desire. Resale demand tracks cultural resonance, and this bucket has it.

The Devil Wears Prada has a devoted fanbase that has been waiting 20 years for a sequel. Anne Hathaway, Meryl Streep, Emily Blunt, Stanley Tucci, and a deep ensemble are all in it. The bucket design is also legitimately good, which is not something you can say about every theater collectible.

However, the multi-theater distribution has resellers a little worried. Even if this ends up being one of the most popular popcorn bucket designs in years, if every theater is carrying one they might be too easy to secure at retail and kill the market for resellers.

Risk Factors

This one is moderately risky for a few reasons. First, in-theater pricing is not confirmed yet, so you are estimating your actual cost basis. Second, wide distribution across multiple chains means supply could be substantial. Third, the Fandango bundle is explicitly non-refundable: if you buy it and the resale market comes in soft, you are eating the loss.

That said, this is a movie bucket with real cultural momentum behind it, a great design, and an audience that actually wants to own it. Grabbing one or two at in-theater pricing is a reasonable gamble. If you’re brave, securing several could be a ticket to major profits, or a quick way to lose your money. Popcorn buckets are generally final sale items, so don’t expect a refund.
