Topps Plans Final Stranger Things Drop on January 2nd

Here’s the thing about most trading card hobby boxes: you’re gambling. Sure, there’s a chance at an autograph, maybe some numbered parallels, but nothing’s guaranteed beyond base cards and commons.

Topps flipped that script for this Stranger Things finale release. Every single box comes with a signed card, whether that’s a straight autograph or an autograph paired with a piece of costume from the show. On top of that, you’re getting a separate costume relic card.

For context, that costume relic alone could feature fabric from Steve’s iconic Scoops Ahoy uniform or Eleven’s hospital gown. These are actual pieces worn on-screen, embedded in the card. The autograph list includes heavy hitters like Millie Bobby Brown (Eleven), with previous Stranger Things releases seeing her autos sell for $300-500 depending on the card and parallel.

Let’s talk realistic expectations here. The 2025 Topps Stranger Things High-Tek release that dropped earlier this year retails for $130 and is currently seeing sales on eBay around $210-230. That’s a 79% markup over retail after platform fees. The High-Tek version only guarantees an autograph in every other box on average, making this standard release potentially more valuable per box since you’re guaranteed a signature.

Previous Stranger Things releases have held strong in the secondary market, particularly boxes with guaranteed hits. The 2018 Season 1 hobby boxes that promised 2 hits per box were initially around $60-70 and now sell for $150-200 sealed. The key difference? Those were released when the show was still building momentum. This is the final season, the last chance to get official Stranger Things product directly from Topps.

eBay sold listings for sealed Stranger Things hobby boxes consistently show 2-3X retail pricing long after release, with individual autographs from main cast members commanding serious money. A Millie Bobby Brown auto can easily clear $300, Joe Keery (Steve) autos go for $150-250, and even supporting cast like Caleb McLaughlin pull $100+.

And we have plenty of solid data that points to Stranger Things merch being a solid flip. Gatorade’s recent capsule collections have exploded on eBay, reselling for upwards of $300 from a $170 retail price. These didn’t even come with a signature!

This is important: Topps sales are final. No refunds if you crack a box and pull an autograph from a character nobody wants. The costume relic and autograph guarantee removes some gambling element, but you could still end up with a $50 auto instead of a $500 Eleven signature. The market for Stranger Things cards is also entirely dependent on the show’s cultural relevance, and we’re already seeing some fatigue after multiple releases in recent years.

That said, the guaranteed hit structure significantly reduces your downside compared to most hobby boxes where you could strike out entirely. At minimum, you’re walking away with two actual hits (one autograph or auto relic, one regular relic), not just base cards and inserts.

This is probably the strongest Stranger Things card opportunity since the 2018 Season 1 release, and unlike that product, you’re getting guaranteed value in every box. If you’re a Stranger Things collector, this is a must-cop. If you’re purely flipping, sealed boxes offer the safest play with steady appreciation potential, while cracking boxes is higher risk but could net you serious profit on the right pulls.
