Key Points

  • Megadeth’s “Ghostly” vinyl was exclusive to the Louder webstore with only 500 copies pressed worldwide

  • Each copy included an A5 art card signed by all four band members and ships January 23, 2026

  • The $50 limited edition is already flipping for up to $150

Megadeth just announced their final studio album, and the limited edition ghostly vinyl sold out almost immediately through the Louder webstore. The 500-copy pressing with band-signed art cards is already moving on secondary markets for over $150. This marks the end of one of Thrash’s big four, as Dave Mustaine announced earlier this year that the self-titled 2026 album would be Megadeth’s last studio release.

Megadeth X Louder Signed Vinyl Release

Megadeth formed in 1983 after Dave Mustaine was fired from Metallica, and they went on to define thrash metal alongside acts like Slayer and Anthrax.

The announcement of their final album created immediate demand among collectors and longtime fans. Mustaine’s August statement that he wanted to go out “on top” added weight to the release. The limited 500-copy pressing through Louder made this one of the scarcest official Megadeth vinyl releases in recent memory.

The ghostly vinyl variant featured hand-pressed red and blue swirl patterns, meaning each copy had a unique appearance. Combined with the band-signed art card, collectors viewed this as a must-have piece of Megadeth history.

Like any long-lived supergroup, Megadeth has had plenty of lineup changes in the last two decades. The only original member is frontman Dave Mustaine, with fellow founder David Ellefson leaving the band (for the second time) in 2021. The current lineup features Teemu Mäntysaari on lead, James LoMenzo on bass, and drummer Dirk Verbeuren.

Final albums from legendary bands can carry premium value in the vinyl market. When acts announce their last studio release, completionist collectors scramble to secure every variant. The emotional weight of a farewell release drives demand beyond normal limited pressings.

With the Louder exclusive completely sold out, early resale activity shows copies moving for over $150. This represents significant markup over typical limited vinyl pricing, which usually falls in the $40 to $60 range for similar releases.

Megadeth also sold signed art cards through Kerrang!

Other exclusive variants are still available for pre-order through different retailers. Brooklyn Vegan offers “Red Orange Ghostly” and “Green Black Kiwi Splatter” variants limited to 300 copies each. Decibel Magazine has a “Radioactive Yellow” pressing limited to just 150 copies. Metal Hammer and Kerrang also released their own exclusive variants through the Louder network.

Megadeth’s fanbase skews toward collectors who value physical media. Thrash metal fans have consistently supported vinyl releases, although Megadeth’s tendency to remaster and re-release the classics have dampened the market for resellers.

The band plans a global farewell tour to support the album. Tour dates and festival appearances will keep them in the public eye through 2026, potentially sustaining interest in the vinyl releases.

With Slayer’s dissolution in 2024, only Metallica and Anthrax soldier on as the surviving members of thrash metal’s “Big Four”. We’ve covered a string of profitable releases from both bands in the last few years, so stay tuned for more limited edition drops in the near future.
