McDonald’s is celebrating more than 50 years of fattening up America’s children with their new McDonaldland throwback collection. For a limited time, you can head to the Golden Arches and pick up a McDonaldland meal. These include a unique milkshake and one of six collectable tins. These souvenirs are proving quite popular online, and we’re already seeing a market emerge for them on eBay. If you act fast and get lucky, it’s possible to turn a profit eating fast food.
It’s time to enter a magical world full of french fry fields, burger meadows, and fountains of artificially-thickened milkshakes. We’re talking, of course, about McDonaldland.
McDonaldland is the official name for McDonald’s extended marketing universe, where characters like Ronald McDonald and the Hamburglar call home. If you grew up in the 90s and early 2000s you can probably remember the commercials, although McDonald’s has wound the campaign down significantly in recent years.
However, they’re dipping back into the nostalgia well with this summer’s McDonaldland campaign. For a limited time, McDonald’s is selling the McDonaldland meal with your choice of a Quarter Pounder or ten-piece McNugget, fries, and a unique McDonaldland shake.
The real attraction for resellers are the limited edition souvenir tins. These are produced as a set of six, featuring the classic McDonaldland characters Ronald McDonald, Grimace, the Hamburglar, Birdie, Mayor McCheese, and the Fry Friends.
The promotion also debuted alongside a retro commercial. This is the first time McDonald’s has featured some of these characters in their marketing in decades.
Obviously, this is a big event for people that wheeze on their way to the bathroom. McDonaldland Meals are available right now across the US, with prices ranging from $12 to $18 depending on location.
And if you’re looking to expand your waistline and your wallet at the same time, we’ve got an opportunity for you. These souvenir tins are pretty popular, and there are collectors out there willing to pay for a complete set.
Right now, individual McDonaldland souvenir tins are reselling for $15 to $20, while full sets are flipping for around $80.
To put it simply, you can eat at McDonald’s for free right now by reselling the tin that comes along with your meal. Additionally, if you have a friend working at McDonald’s or you just ask the cashier nicely, you can pick up multiple tins with a single order.
This isn’t the most profitable product we’ve ever covered, but it is easy, and these tins will only be available for a limited time.
And there’s a precedent for discontinued McDonald’s merch reselling for well over its original price after the promotion ends. In 2024 we covered McDonald’s Collector Cups reselling for as much as $50, while discontinued Mac Coins were routinely trading for $20 at their peak.
Make sure you subscribe to our newsletter if you want to stay updated on the latest flips. We’re hard at work bringing you everything worth reselling from across the internet, but you won’t hear about any of it if you’re not subscribed.
