Alice Cooper has reunited for a new record coming in July
Vinyl copies with all four members’ signatures sold for $80
Resellers are flipping them for up to $300
So, what’s a founding father of heavy metal and shock rock pioneer like Alice Cooper supposed to do after sixty years of selling records and playing sold-out arenas? If you said “exactly the same thing he’s been doing”, enjoy your cookie. Alice Cooper recently released a signed vinyl version of his upcoming album “The Revenge of Alice Cooper.” These sold out fast online, and it didn’t take long for resellers to start flipping them for three or more times what they retailed for.
Billed as “the return album the world was afraid of”, the original members of the Alice Cooper have reunited for their eighth studio album, and the first since 1973.
With fourteen new songs that dial the clock five decades back, it’s a return to the high point of Cooper’s career and is heavily inspired by the exploitative horror films and cheesy shock rock of the era. Fans will be able to pick the record up in July.
And ahead of the release, Alice Cooper also released a limited number of autographed two-disc LP vinyl versions of “The Revenge of Alice Cooper.” These are pressed on distinct red plastic and feature the horror movie poster-inspired album art.
All four of the original bandmembers signatures are included on a separate insert: Dennis Dunaway, Neal Smith, Michael Bruce, and of course Alice Cooper.
These signed records were available exclusively through the Talk Shop Live webstore for $80. Customers were limited to a maximum item. We don’t know how many were listed for sale, but as an autographed item they’re inherently limited; maybe a couple hundred copies at most.
Generally speaking, the words “autographed” and “inherently limited” translate to “very resellable.” With how fast these records sold out, it was no surprise to see them reappear on eBay within a few hours.
Right now, signed vinyl records of “The Revenge of Alice Cooper” are reselling for as much as $300, more than triple what they originally retailed for. This pencils out to upwards of $200 in profit per sale.
That’s pretty tidy. And while an $80 retail price might’ve seemed a bit steep, remember that buyers would receive signatures from all four members. While Alice Cooper’s signature isn’t particularly rare, it’s hard to find the entire band’s autographs together.
This was a no-brainer for most resellers, and those that got in on it early enough are busy counting their cash. If you want to get on the inside track for flips like this before they pass you by, make sure you’re subscribed to our newsletter. We’ll see you on the next one.
