DOOM fans have an opportunity to pick up a delightfully tongue-in-cheek collector’s item starting tomorrow. A limited number of DOOM “Will it Run” Editions are dropping through Limited Run Games, and we’re guessing they won’t last long. This is the ultimate collectable for any diehard DOOM fan, but the steep price tag might put some off. Still, with how few are being made, don’t be surprised to see these flipping for hellish profits. Let’s get into it.

Limited Run Games DOOM Collection

While gamers today are more familiar with id’s recently rebooted DOOM series, there’s no denying that the original DOOM and DOOM 2 from the 90s are some of the most influential video games ever created.

Bethesda has been continuously rereleasing the OG DOOM games for new consoles over the last few years, and they’ve partnered with Limited Run Games for a very cool collection. A combined version of DOOM 1 and 2 will be releasing through LRG’s website tomorrow.

These include the full host of id’s post-launch content, multiplayer matchmaking and mod support, multiple languages, a variant soundtrack composed by Andrew Hulshult, and a host of quality of life improvements like gyroscopic aiming and improved UI.

Limited Run Games is releasing their DOOM 1 and 2 collection in three different variants. Standard editions will be available for $30, “Big Box” editions with retro-inspired packaging and bonus goodies for $100, and the demonically-priced “Will it Run” edition for $666.

DOOM “Will it Run” editions take a classic running joke in computing and apply it literally; the box that the game ships in is capable of running DOOM.

These editions also include a handheld Cacodemon (that also runs DOOM!), four cassettes with the original and new soundtracks, a trading card pack that may included an autographed Cacodemon card, a magnetic floating Cacodemon model, and certificate of authenticity.

DOOM “Will it Run” editions are limited to just 666 total units and priced at $666. The entire collection goes up for sale tomorrow, April 18, at 7 AM Pacific.

Ok sure, it’ll run DOOM, but will they resell? These are highly limited collector’s pieces, and even a $666 price tag will keep it from selling out fast.

We don’t really have any easy comparisons to draw from. It’s not unusual to see video game collector’s editions flip for a few hundred dollars over MSRP, but those usually retail for around $200, nowhere near what Limited Run is asking for their “Will it Run” edition.

As of this publication, over 450 currently have these editions added to a wishlist, and it’s likely there are more fans waiting to buy one when the collection goes live.

If you’re considering going after this drop, there’s some information you should keep in mind. For one, LRG is not imposing any quantity limits for customers, so you can buy as many editions as you want.

Additionally, it’s unclear if orders can be canceled or refunded. Theoretically, this sale will be open until May 18, although we would very surprised to see any “Will it Run” editions remain in stock more than a few minutes.
