Meta and Coperni collaborated on a limited variation of their smart glasses
Just 3,600 were sold for $550 per pair
Resellers are flipping them for double that
Meta has extended their smart glasses collaboration with Ray-Ban to a new collection, this time tapping French fashion house Coperni for a remixed design. Meta Ray-Ban Coperni glasses were a limited production product, and they sold out very fast after they launched. Now resellers are listing their shades for sale online for quite a bit more than they paid. Let’s get started.
First, let’s do a little recap. Back in 2021, Meta (still going by Facebook at the time) announced their first collaboration with Ray-Ban for a line of smart glasses: the Ray-Ban Stories. These picked up the much-maligned torch of the Google Glass of wearable tech.
This partnership endured, and eventually became the Ray-Ban Meta. Built on Ray-Ban’s iconic Wayfarer frame, the Meta glasses packed a remarkable amount AI-powered functionality into a slim, unobtrusive package.
The project seems to be a success, and Meta has reached out to several companies for limited collaborations, among them Scuderia Ferrari.
The latest is a three-way partnership between Meta, Ray-Ban and Coperni for a highly limited series of Ray-Ban Meta “Coperni” smart glasses. These are designed around the distinct Wayfarer frame, but made with a translucent black material and smoky gray lenses. Coperni badging is featured throughout.
Ray-Ban Meta Coperni glasses were limited to just 3,600 units and individually numbered. They went up for sale on March 10 for $550 per pair, and were available through Ray-Ban and Coperni’s websites, along with a handful of pairs that went to independent retailers.
With how limited these glasses were and the amount of hype around their release, they didn’t last long. Both Coperni’s and Ray-Ban’s site sold out within minutes of launch, so most buyers had to hunt around through various eyeglass boutiques to snag a pair.
But it was definitely worth the effort. Right now, Ray-Ban Meta Coperni glasses are reselling for upwards of $800, with some going for as much as $1,200.
With an MSRP of $550, resellers that got in on this drop stood to net over $500 in straight up profit. That’s certainly good enough for us.
