Key Points

  • Shadow of the Erdtree Collector’s Editions ship with a statue of Messmer

  • They are still available for sale on most platforms for $250

  • Resellers are flipping the individual statues for about the same price

Gamers across the world called out sick last Friday following the release of Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree. This game-sized expansion launched alongside a seriously premium Collector’s Edition, sporting $250 worth of bonus merch, in-game content, and an 18-inch tall statue of Messmer the Impaler. Now resellers are parting their Collector’s Editions out piece by piece and making a profit. The craziest part? These Collector’s Editions are still available for sale through Bandai Namco’s website.

Shadow of the Erdtree Messmer Statue

If you haven’t played Shadow of the Erdtree yet, a lot of what we’re discussing might be going over your head. Don’t worry, there are no spoilers ahead.

Back in February, we got our first in-depth look at Elden Ring’s first and only DLC, Shadow of the Erdtree. New bosses, new areas, and new controllers (after you put the old one through a wall). After two years and a $40 price tag, gamers had no idea what was waiting for them.

At the same time, Bandai Namco also published the full details for Shadow of the Erdtree Collector’s Editions. These were and still are $250. If you want to get all the details, you can check out our original article here.

Shadow of the Erdtree Collector

Today, we’re looking at a very particular part of this Collector’s Edition. Alongside a digital code to the game, artbook, and all the other goodies was a bespoke statue depicting Messmer the Impaler, a primary antagonist in the new DLC.

Standing at 18 inches tall and smoldering with twink rage, this is a must-have for any serious Elden Ring collector. These were not sold separately, the only way to obtain them (legitimately), was to buy a Shadow of the Erdtree Collector’s Edition.

Also included was a collectible box that can be used to house the statue, in case you’re the type to keep things in their packaging, away from sunlight and other people’s greasy fingers.

There was a lot of hype around these figures when they were first revealed. Bandai Namco helpfully stoked the fires with a suggestive tweet; offering “18 inches of Messmer” to thirsty fans.

We don’t know how many Shadow of the Erdtree Collector’s Editions were produced in total, but an educated guess would put it somewhere between “a lot” and “a whole hell of a lot”. Back in April we double-checked some stock numbers, and it seemed like the number of Collector’s Editions had actually gone up, not down.

Meaning Bandai Namco was likely scaling production to meet demand. That’s an ideal strategy for a publisher looking to take their golden goose for all it’s worth, less so if you’re a humble reseller looking to make an honest buck.

In any case, Shadow of the Erdtree Collector’s Editions have still not sold out from BamCo’s site, at least for PC and PlayStation.

Despite this, we’ve seen a very odd trend. Shadow of the Erdtree Collector’s Editions have been reselling on eBay for the last few weeks, usually for about $100 or so over retail. Additionally, the Messmer statues have been reselling for $200 to $250 on their own.

Messmer Statue for Sale

We have no idea why. Yes, people who buy from resellers are generally pretty dumb, but wouldn’t you expect them to at least check the retailer’s website first? In any case, if you snagged a preorder for one of these Collector’s Editions, you stand to make around $100 in profit.

Will this market hold up? Probably not, but we said that in April too. For some reason, these Collector’s Editions have continued to move on eBay for months without ever selling out. We don’t recommend you buy them just to resell, but it doesn’t seem like a terrible idea either.

Elden Ring Messmer Helmets Resell

And we’re not done quite yet. Along with the standard edition of the DLC and Shadow of the Erdtree Collector’s Editions, Bandai Namco also produced a limited run of collectable helmets based on Messmer.

These are numbered and limited 9,999 total units, and are available for sale directly from BamCo for $190. At the time, we thought these could also be very popular, but they have failed to sell out.

Oh wait, that doesn’t matter. Yes, despite still being in stock, Shadow of the Erdtree Messmer Helmets are reselling on eBay for upwards of $300.

What the hell? How are people going to complain about scalpers and then pull stuff like this? At this point, they deserve it.

So to wrap it up: Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree Collector’s Editions and Messmer Helmets are available for sale, right now, for $250 and $190 respectively. Both are reselling for $300 to $350. Messmer statues that come with the Collector’s Editions have resold for about $250.

Do with this information what you will. What we’re seeing pretty much defies logic, but who cares. If you want to take a gamble that the market will still be there when your order ships, good luck.

Until then, subscribe to our newsletter if you want to stay updated on new drops and reselling opportunities. Resellers have recently made tons of money flipping video game merch like Metal Gear Solid Δ Collector’s Editions and Alan Wake 2 “Oh Deer Diner” Thermoses.
