Cards are big right now. It feels like every day we see a new record sale hit the timeline, before getting shattered in a week. Well, today’s no different, because we have yet another record-breaking auction to show you. Just a few hours ago, the rapper Logic paid over $180,000 for a first edition Charizard card in mint condition. This marks the highest sale for one of these cards ever, and a testament to how far the card market has come in the last few years.

PSA 10 Charizard Sells to Logic

Have you been living under a rock? If not, you’ll know that cards are THE thing to be buying and selling right now. If you haven’t already started tearing through the attic or looking through your old schoolbags, it’s not too late to get in on the fun.

While TCGs of all stripes have exploded in popularity this year, Pokemon cards are the clear winner in the recent card boom. We’ve seen consistent record sales for high-quality first edition cards, and it seems like there’s no shortage of buyers competing for them.

Just a few hours ago, we saw a record sale for a PSA 10 graded first edition Charizard card in Gem Mint condition, meaning the card is almost perfect condition. The artist Logic bid $183,812 for a card through Iconic Auctions. After an approximate 20% buyer’s premium, the final sale came out to more than $220,000.

This is the highest a PSA 10 first edition Charizard has sold for. Considering how iconic Charizard is within the world of Pokemon, it makes sense that collectors are willing to go the extra mile for one.

Since the Coronavirus pandemic started in March, we’ve seen a renewed interest in trading cards of all kinds. Whether it’s the sudden surge of spending money from stimulus checks, a renewed interest in the IP, or everybody just going a little crazy these last few months, it’s boiling down to absolutely incredible amounts of cash being thrown around during auctions.

Earlier this year, Logic announced he would be retiring from his music career to focus on streaming on Twitch, and described himself as “just a nerd.” Spending $200,000 on Pokemon cards is certainly up there in nerdy activities.

We’ll be keeping our eyes on similar sales in the future. In the meantime, check out our blog to get started buying and selling Pokemon cards.
