Pyra and Mythra Amiibos are finally shipping
Preorders opened in April for $30, and they’re reselling for around $80
Over 600 sales have taken place, with more every day
Do you much about Amiibos? They’re Nintendo’s way of producing collectibles, usually based on a character or item from a game, sometimes produced in several variations. Today we’re looking at a special 2-pack of Amiibos made for the video game Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. Despite looking fairly simple, these have absolutely exploded in popularity. In fact, not only are they reselling, but they’re reselling in huge numbers every day. Let’s take a look.
We haven’t really talked about Amiibos before. While they are popular with collectors, they’re not really seen as something that resells. They’re sort of like Funko Pops, both in design and production. Nintendo cranks out a lot of them, and they tend to be quite easy to buy at retail.
Additionally, demand for a particular design is not usually too intense. It’s rare for one to sell out, and Nintendo generally makes enough that they will restock quite fast. Long story short, these aren’t the kind of product that resells.
Of course, there are always exceptions to a rule, and today’s exception is this two pack of Pyra and Mythra Amiibos from Smash Bros. Unlike most other Amiibos sold by Nintendo, this one gets you two collectibles with one purchase, and the characters are not sold separately.
The product is based on their appearance in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, in which they were added as the game’s ninth DLC character in 2021. Together, Pyra and Mythra form a single playable character, which explains why they’re bundled together as an Amiibo 2-pack.
A unique aspect of Amiibos that separates them from other game collectibles is their NFC functionality. Owners can use their Amiibo to unlock special content in a game, even titles that don’t feature the character in question.
All together, it’s a fun little item for a fan of the game, series, or characters. The Pyra and Mythra Amiibo 2-pack was first sold in April 2023 through Nintendo’s website as a preorder. They were expected to ship sometime in June, but this was eventually pushed back to July, which is also when the figures would start being stocked in stores.
In the weeks since that initial sale, a number of listings for these Amiibos have gone up on eBay. While that’s not terribly surprising, the sheer volume of sales is enough to raise an eyebrow. Over 600 of these figures have been sold since April, with the vast majority trading hands in July. It seems like people who headed to the store to buy one found the shelves empty, and decided to look online instead.
You might be wondering what a Pyra and Mythra Amiibo 2-pack is selling for. Well, prices have been all over the place since the preorder closed. Some have gone for over $100, others barely cleared their retail price. On average, a sealed Pyra and Mythra Amiibo 2-pack resells for around $80.
Considering these retail for $30, that’s not bad at all. Resellers who were able to pick up multiple figures earned themselves a nice little payday on this release, and the strong demand means finding a buyer is quite easy.
Check your local retailers for these Amiibos. There’s a good chance they’ll be sold out, but finding one in the wild is a quick ticket to making $50.
